Delivering on Every Promise For More Than 84 Years

Luck Stone is a rare company. It has have enjoyed success for over 84 years and has remained family-owned and operated since its beginning.

To understand how Luck Stone Corporation has thrived for so long is to know the core values of the Charles S. Luck family. An unwavering commitment to the values of honesty, integrity, quality and the importance of people, has guided the company since it was founded in 1923. Today, Luck Stone still follows those same values, applying them to every aspect of how it does business. As the company slogan says, it’s all about Delivering on Every Promise.

Perhaps this is why the company has grown to become the 15th largest producer of crushed stone in the United States. Luck Stone operates 15 crushed stone plants, three sand and gravel operations and eight retail architectural stone centers throughout Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland.

Founded by Charles S. Luck, Jr., Luck Stone began as Sunnyside Granite Company operating a single quarry in the west end of Richmond. As Virginia grew over the next two decades, demand for crushed stone increased and Mr. Luck Added manufacturing facilities across the state. He also pioneered the use of electricity, converting from standard steam-powered machines to more productive, electric-powered ones.

Expansion and innovation continued at an even greater pace when Charles S. Luck III assumed the role of President in 1965. Through his vision, Luck Stone became a nationally recognized industry leader in automation, product diversification, plant safety and environmental stewardship.

Recognizing the growing need for architectural and landscaping stone products, Charles III opened the company’s first retail showroom in 1976; a unique concept that captured the industry’s attention. Since that time, the architectural stone division has become one of the company’s most ambitious ventures.

Under Charles III’s guidance, Luck Stone has balanced growth with responsible management. The company constantly strives to be an asset to the communities in which it operates because it depends upon them for continued success.

In 1995, Charles S. Luck, IV took over the reins as President and Chief Operating Officer of the company when his father became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the company. The combined leadership of both generations currently guides Luck Stone – now thriving with more than 800 associates.
