Charlottesville, VA - Luck Stone Corporation, a Richmond-based company, and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville (HFHGC) are teaming up to provide the Perkins family with a place they can call home. To help fund the house, the Luck Stone Foundation provided a monetary donation of $25,000 and an additional $25,000 was provided by the company’s partners through in-kind and monetary donations; and the rest of the funding was raised by HFHGC through individual donations and grants. Luck Stone volunteers are expected to construct the home, located at 396 Red Hill Road, from start-to-finish. With kindness in their hearts and hammers in their hands, Luck Stone associates will haul, hammer and heave until the home is owner-ready by mid-summer.
Audrey Storm, Senior Construction Manager of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville, said “we’re delighted to be partnering with Luck Stone as they’re realizing a dream for a family in need. They’re building a house but most importantly they’re providing hope and improving the life of the Perkins family.” Habitat homes are made affordable with largely volunteer construction. Further, each homeowner-to-be has to complete 400 hours of service from training in home-ownership and budgets to working to build other Habitat homes; “we call this sweat equity,” added Storm.
“We’re always looking for new ways to enrich and positively impact the communities we serve, therefore, partnering with Habitat was a natural choice for us,” said Charlie Luck, IV, Luck Stone’s president. “Everyone benefits from this partnership as Habitat and Luck Stone will be working together for the common good,” Luck added, “And most importantly, we’ll be providing a home for a deserving family, bettering the Louisa community while building relationships and having fun.”
