Environmental Stewardship Luck Stone Presents First Annual Environmental Award

Bealeton, Va. — Luck Stone Corporation, headquartered in Richmond, Va., recently presented its first annual Environmental Award for on-site customers at its Bealeton Plant to Crider & Shockey, Inc. and Superior Paving Corporation. The purpose of the award is to recognize and reward two on-site customers (one asphalt and one concrete producer) each year for their plant’s appearance, environmental practices, and community involvement.

John LeGore, Regional Vice President of Luck Stone’s Northern Region Plants, said that Luck Stone has conducted annual environmental audits of its on-site customers for nearly 20 years. “This is the first year that we’ve formally presented an Environmental Award,” said LeGore. “It is our way of recognizing customers for their extraordinary efforts to maintain their property to Luck Stone’s standards and for being involved in their local communities.”

Luck Stone’s environmental audit covers environmental compliance, site appearance, permitting and paperwork, employee training, and community involvement. Philip Baumgart, Area Manager for Crider & Shockey, accepted the award on behalf of his company. “We are thrilled to be one of the first two winners of Luck Stone’s Environmental Award,” he said. “Crider & Shockey takes great pride in our environmental program and our extensive support of many community activities. We are honored to receive this award,” Baumgart added.

Superior Paving Corporation, headquartered in Bristow, Va., is one of Luck Stone’s largest customers. Its Bealeton Plant also received Luck Stone’s 2003 Environmental Award. Tony Loconti, Superior’s Safety Director, remarked that Superior has always been dedicated to quality and service. “That part of our mission is clearly demonstrated in our commitment to providing a first-rate environmental program.”

Luck Stone is the largest privately owned and operated aggregates company in the U.S. and is the 12th largest producer of crushed stone in the nation. Luck Stone is committed to environmental stewardship and community involvement and has been recognized nationally for its conservation and community relations programs.
