The National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association recently recognized Luck Stone’s Spotsylvania Quarry as one of only seven quarries nation-wide to receive the Association’s National Stars of Excellence Award.
’’Our 2008 National Stars of Excellence winners have every reason to be proud of their achievements,’’ said NSSGA Chairman of the Board Steve Sloan, President and CEO, Midwest Minerals, Inc., Pittsburg, Kan. ’’I congratulate each of these seven operations for their commitment to being outstanding corporate citizens and supporting their communities.’’
Begun in 2001, the National Stars of Excellence award is presented to those operations demonstrating a commitment to excellence by earning two or more national awards in the previous 5 years.
Hugh Stevens, Plant Manager at the Spotsylvania location, said “Luck Stone is proud to be a part of the Spotsylvania community. As a business in the County, we strive to maintain a strong presence and strong relationships with our community partners while working to improve and preserve our environment.”
Luck Stone has operated the Spotsylvania Quarry since 2002, and has worked since that time to establish its presence as a positive and committed community asset.
In recognition of that work, in 2006, the Spotsylvania Quarry received the NSSGA About Face award. This award recognizes aggregate producers who have made constructive and positive efforts to enhance the aesthetic appearance of their operations.
Then, in 2008, the Spotsylvania location was awarded the Gold Environmental Excellence Award which provides national recognition for quarries that actively contribute to the maintenance of the environment in and around their operations. This contribution is demonstrated by a corporate commitment to the exemplary use of environmental controls and systems and the extent to which an operation meets and exceeds technical, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Further, in conjunction with its sister quarry at Massaponax, in 2007 the Spotsylvania Quarry was honored with the NSSGA Silver Medallion for Community Relations as well as the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce Goodwill Award.
Spotsylvania will be recognized for the National Stars of Excellence Award on March 9, 2009 during an awards ceremony at NSSGA’s Annual Convention in Orlando, Fla.
